Bean Encounter

Portland, Oregon based artist Bean Gilsdorf's work originally caught my eye when it was shown in the Extra/Ordinary exhibit in Kansas City. She monoprints objects (like guns!) onto fabric, then constructs quilts. Her work has been shown in FiberArts and American Craft...she's won some awards...but none of that will prepare you for her newest feat of derring-do. For a new exhibit at the Basil Hallward Gallery at Powell's Books, Bean has printed...a 1966 PLYMOUTH VALIANT! Life size! The quilt measures 57 inches tall by 37 FEET long. All of this is made even more remarkable when you consider that Bean's studio is only 11 feet x 11 feet. Check out her other work on her website, and check out this detail of the quilt. The exhibition will be on view through November.
