The Vancouver Art Museum has a current exhibition of works by Chinese artist Wang Du, featuring the oversized carpet featured above. To get an idea of the scale of the thing, check out the figures walking in the upper right. The title of the piece is "Tapis Volant" (Flying Carpet), and depicts a Time Magazine cover of the Space Shuttle Columbia exploding. Wang du usually makes very large sculptures derived from two-dimensional magazine pictures, created with forced perspectives and wide angles intact. I'm gutted that I'll be visiting Vancouver in October and missing the show by a month.
