A compendium of craft masquerading as art, art masquerading as craft, and craft extending its middle finger.

The Art of Ross Bullwinkel

Yesterday, I attended the Art from the Heart benefit art auction for Studio By the Tracks in Birmingham, Alabama. Studio By the Tracks is a non-profit art studio catering to adults with autism. The proceeds from the sale of the artworks assist the artists in their goals of self-sufficiency. One of my favorite artists at the studio is Ross Bullwinkel, an autistic artist with a worldview dominated by Christianity. The painting above, "The Triumphant Return of Gospel-Man" was featured in Extreme Craft a few months ago. The good folks at the studio put together an amazing zine about Ross, his art, and his life, and with their kind permission, I re-created it as a flickr photo set. Lately, Ross has been making some fantastic Byzantine icons in his inimitable style.
LINK thanks Merrilee!
